SOUTH LAKES SOCIETY FOR THE BLIND

This year the Summer Outing was to Thorn's Hall for lunch.  We were lucky to have reasonable weather and were met with a warm welcome from Catherine and her staff.
Gordon Axford greeted everyone and asked for a minute's silence in memory of Elsie Haygarth who sadly had passed away in May. He described her as a kind, unassuming lady with a wonderful sense of humour. She will be greatly missed.
Gordon expressed a special welcome for Margaret Moore, the widow of our delightful member Bill who died at the beginning of this year. There was also a warm welcome for Rosemary Handley, the co-ordinator of the
'Talking Lookaround' and also for Dennis Whicker who had put in so much time and effort into the 'Large Print Lookaround' as well as being a reader of the 'Talking Lookaround'.
We enjoyed the roast lunch with all the trimmings and were well looked after by the staff. With good food and good conversation the two hours passed very quickly before it was time to disperse.
The summer outing was the last meeting of the group until September. Many thanks are due to the staff of Woofs' Taxis for their patient and good natured transport of our members over the year.
The next meeting will take place at the Peoples' Hall on Tuesday September 19th at 2.15 p.m. New members are always welcome as are new volunteers. For information phone 21019 or the Society's Kendal office 01539 742633.
