RECYCLING NEWS

There have been articles in the media about the problems that the nation faces, as the landfill sites currently used reach capacity. SLDC uses two landfill sites; waste from the south west of the district is sent to a site in Barrow, whilst waste from the rest of the district is sent to Lancaster. However these sites are nearing the end of their capacity and alternative arrangements will have to be made. This is likely to result in our waste travelling even greater distances, which will be both expensive and wasteful.
Many residents and visitors now recycle at least some of their waste, but most of us have some waste that cannot be recycled. We are asking everybody to think about the waste that they do not recycle and ask whether it is really necessary. 20% of the waste thrown away in this country is food waste, some of which could be composted. The Cumbria Waste Partnership has compost bins available from £6 including delivery. If you would like a compost bin log on to our website at www.southlakeland.gov.uk for more details.
If you have any questions about recycling or reducing the amount of waste you have, please contact us either through the Customer Contact Centre on 0845 050 4434 or by emailing us at recycling@southlakeland.gov.uk
  Thank you for recycling.

THE ROSE THEATRE GROUP

Do not miss the groups latest production 'Spar Wars' The cast has expanded with lots of the towns young people taking part. There is a large group of youngsters from the primary school as well as students from Settlebeck.. The story very loosely follows the original plot of Star Wars, but our special effects are better. The story features such characters as Finkle the shed, Princess Freda Luke Fellwalker and Old-Ken-Popie. There will be comedy and lots of songs. A raffle and refreshments It's a good laugh so do come and join in the fun. The Rose Theatre Group dedicates all profit to 'Ali's dream' A charity for fighting brain tumours in children.
Tickets are selling now so be sure to get yours. There are three performances at Settlebeck School, the evening of Friday March 3 and the afternoon and evening of Saturday March 4. Tickets are cheaper in advance and will be on sale at the TIC and the Green Door.
Naturally it costs money to put on a production and the group are very grateful for all the local sponsorship it has received. Mostly though we need
your support ; without an audience a Panto really can't work after all who will shout back ...
'He's behind you'.
